When you think no one’s watching
When the moment takes over
When you forget what you’re thinking and say what you really feel
When you’re in between poses
And when your laughter takes over
That’s when you’re floating with the angels…
…You’re beautiful.
- In Between Poses by Jen Foster [click link to hear song]
Who are you when you’re “in between poses” – in those times when pretense slips away for a moment, and your internal artwork is expressed?
And who would you be if you allowed others to see the core of you that appears when you’re in between “poses”?
The moment after you hang up the phone.
The moment you shut the door after a loved one leaves your home.
The moment you notice the early morning sunlight through the autumn leaves
The moment backstage before your show … or speech … or award acceptance.
The moment before the elevator door opens.
The moment before your first morning cup of coffee.
The moment after meditation.
The moment in between poses, when your eyes express a thousand thoughts, and your body shows its full array of emotion, and your essence shimmers through every pore.
The moment in between poses, when you are simply YOU.
Terrifying. Freeing. Transformative. Magical.
When you’re in between poses
And when your laughter takes over
That’s when you’re floating with the angels…
…You’re beautiful.
Still not convinced? Hear the words to music… listen to the whole song [here], then go find yourself, your beauty, in between poses…

Jeanne…
…and yet… Scott still loves you… just sayin’
p.s. it’s not whether you win or lose… it’s how you take your coffee.

I think you already know… but reading this first thing this morning just allowed me to stop as I was getting into all of my busy-ness for the day… Just stop, and breathe. A nice, deep breath.
The song? Yeah… beautiful.
Ugh… all of this just makes that very yearning in me louder, stronger, that much more insistent!
Who am I in between poses? I’m someone who’s curious about my world (especially the hidden parts), in love with trees and the natural world, interested in all things spiritual & psychological & philosophical & ancient, obsessed with dragonflies & crystals & quotes & creativity, self-protective & defensive & full of buried rage, fiercely protective-and-at-the-same-time-judgemental-of-my-children. I’m a big, jagged & sharp set of conflicting thoughts and beliefs trying to come together in a way that’s meaningful for my own life and for others lives.
What an interesting mosaic we all are as individuals… and then even more so when we bring all of our stuff together into groups of people!
God, you’ve got me started now this morning Starla!! I blame you if I can’t focus on this website I need to work on….
Have a fabulous week, this was a really great start to it for me. Thanks for that <3

Angel, I love that you gave yourself a pause in your morning. And I love that you shared with me/us who you are in between poses. Beautiful example of the intertwined complexities of EVERY human being.
Your description of the “jagged and sharp set of conflicting thoughts and beliefs…” jumped me right to your mosaic metaphor in a way I hadn’t really thought of before. I had been thinking about the variation of size, color, texture, shape of the mosaic pieces, but not about the sharpness, jaggedness… which is a huge part of the beauty. Thanks for adding depth to the mosaic metaphor for me!
And now go work on that website!
The “YOU” of you will still be there when you get a chance to revisit your ponderings inbetween (work) poses.

Hi beautiful Helen… I love that you’re one of the people in life who lets others see you in between poses… through your blog posts.
And anyone who uses the phrase “mind candy” is someone I want in my world!
xo!

Love this! Made me a little teary, first thing Monday morning…not that there is anything wrong with that
A perfect reminder for me, since I feel like I spend alot of time right now in those poses….who I’m expected to be at work, navigating the oft-times scary road of parenting teens, etc. It’s easy to forget what I look like, in between poses. Thanks

Krispy, a little eye bath first thing Monday morning? Priceless.
I so enjoyed seeing you in between poses last week. Thank you.
I’d imagine sometimes when parenting teens, the poses help you get through (and get through to them)… so just keep your mind’s mirror handy for the in between times.
